Does Traditional Chinese medicine help with Constipation?

by admin on October 28, 2009

Does anyone here have personal experience/s with TCM?

Certainly TCM has treatments for constipation. But the causes behind the constipation are many and the treatments are related to the causes and will contradict each other at times. So I hesitate to just say that a person with constipation should use a particular formula or herb.
Obviously we need sufficient moisture and bulk to make bowel movements work. Exercise, sufficient water consumption, and fiber are all part of the answer.
I would suggest seeing a TCM practitioner in person. Good bowel health is very important. Taking time to resolve this problem, if it is chronic in your life, can do a lot to maintaining good health.

Start drinking 16 ounces of water 3 times a day and this will not only help your constipation but it will greatly increase you energy levels. I have never heard of TCM.

The main treatment of constipation is prevention. Adequate amounts of exercise, fluids, fiber and fruits and vegatables.

Some herbs do have laxative properties….Senna for example. There are probably Chinese herbs that have the same effect. The problem with a lot of the Chinese herbs is"
-Misidentification (its not the herb they say it is)
-Dosage( potency varies from one plant to another, time of year harvested etc)
-Contamination. Up to 25% of TCM herbs imported into Europe and North America are contaminated with heavy metals, mycotoxins
-Adulteration. Up to 25% of TCM herbs are deliberately adulterated with pharmaceuticals so that they will actually work. They may interfere with other meds you may be on,.
